Diversity in Training Excellence 2022
The British Psychoanalytic Council awarded Jay its Diversity in Training Excellence Award for further developing a psychoanalytically-informed training programme for Diversity and Otherness from a developmental perspective.
‘Jay has developed a rich and expansive EDI programme that runs throughout the core of all SAP’s professional training.
Jay’s EDI programme has had a profound impact on the work of the SAP and has helped drive forward their commitment to working towards a more inclusive and diverse approach to psychoanalytic thinking and training and, indeed, the recruitment into our training, education and CPD programmes.
By introducing a challenging and innovative EDI programme, with influential and stellar speakers, he has set a very high and inspirational bar for those wishing to offer the very best standard of professional practice withinthe psychoanalytic and psychotherapeutic community.’

Michael Fordham Prize 2025
Awarded for ‘The Umbilical’ published in the Journal of Analytical Psychology, 2024.
In his paper, Jay emphasises that gender and sex, while possibly central, are not causative to trauma. The paper includes extensive and challenging case material, and uses images from the artist Louise Bourgeois to explore the early development of projective identification.
